Our Story

Coffee was never really the point. The person across the table is.

Elise and Matt figured that out slowly, over a lot of small mornings in the city they both call home. When they went looking for a coffee experience worth serving at their own wedding and couldn't find one, they built it themselves: two people, a cart, and one belief that a good cup can make someone's day brighter.

The cart became a pop-up. The pop-up became a restored building downtown with a kitchen and roastery inside. Then a second café on Hilton Head Island. But the part that mattered never changed, and it was never the equipment. It was the tables, and the people who kept showing up to them.

So that's what we're still building. House-roasted coffee, a genuinely good brunch, and a room worth lingering in.

Where We've Been

We are so grateful that, since our inception in 2020, Origin Coffee Bar has continued to grow, guided by a shared vision to serve exceptional coffee and create a welcoming space for our neighbors.

2020

We hit the streets of Savannah with a mobile coffee bar, brewing specialty coffee at events up and down the East Coast. That same year, Origin found its first long-term home: a pop-up inside a shared event space.

2023

Origin moved into a beautifully restored building of our own in downtown Savannah, complete with a full kitchen and roastery under one roof.

2025

We opened our second cafe on Hilton Head Island, carrying the same commitment to specialty coffee and community to a new group of guests.

2026

We fired up our expanded roastery in Savannah, complete with a quick-service coffee bar and wholesale meeting and education space.

Today

Origin roasts, brews, and cooks up goodness across two coastal Georgia and South Carolina communities, guided by the same idea that started it all: focus on the good.

Meet the founders

Elise & Matt

Origin Coffee Bar is owned and run by Elise and Matt, a husband-and-wife team who built this business the way they built their marriage: on a love of coffee, hospitality, and the belief that small, meaningful gestures can make a world of difference. What started as a search for the right cup of coffee for their wedding day turned into a mission to bring that same care to every guest who walks through our doors.

Beyond the Cup

Coffee Sourcing & Practices

You shouldn't need a special vocabulary to enjoy a great cup of coffee.

Great coffee starts on a farm, long before it ever reaches us. So we get to know the farmers. We've worked directly with family farms like Mara Madeira in Brazil and Finca Terrerito in Honduras for years, and we go back to them season after season along with our incredible importing partners. We pay a price worth farming for.

Then we roast with a light hand, so what you taste is their work and not ours.

The result is coffee worth slowing down for, and easy to order. Ask for a pour-over. Ask for a vanilla latte. You'll get the same care either way.

Our Neighbors

Rooted in Community

Hospitality that stops at our door isn't really hospitality. We love having people in, but we'd rather Origin also be worth something to the people who never walk through it, so we spend a fair amount of our time and coffee outside these walls, usually alongside people who were already doing the work long before we showed up.

Lately that's looked like walking with organizations resettling refugee families in Savannah, helping feed neighbors living without housing, and building internships with local schools for students with developmental differences, who deserve a first job as much as anyone and have a harder time finding one. A few of our coffees carry it further: a share of every bag goes toward serving the houseless community and to orphan care.

None of this is figured out, and we're not the hero of it. We just want to be useful to the people around us, and to keep asking what they actually need.
